Kohtaamme joka päivä automaatiota sitä edes huomaamatta. Standardoitu KNX-järjestelmä yhdistää monia eri sovelluksia, kuten lämmityksen ja jäähdytyksen sekä valaistuksen ohjaukset yhteen älykkääseen ja energiatehokkaaseen automaatiojärjestelmään.
Älykäs automaatiojärjestelmä tarjoaa huomattavia etuja tavanomaiseen sähköasennukseen verrattuna. Monet tavallisesti erikseen toimivat toiminnot voidaan yhdistää KNX-järjestelmään, oli sitten kyseessä optimaalinen huonelämpötila, tilaan sopiva valaistus tai automaattisesti sään ja vuorokaudenajan mukaan säätyvät kaihtimet. KNX-taloautomaatio mahdollistaa myös ratkaisut, jotka ovat hankalia toteuttaa perinteisellä tavalla. Ohjauksia voidaan toteuttaa manuaalisesti sekä automaattisesti esimerkiksi läsnäolo- ja liiketunnistimien avulla, ajastuksilla, säätietojen perusteella ja auringonnousun ja -laskun mukaan. KNX-taloautomaatio soveltuu hyvin monimutkaistenkin ohjausten tekemiseen esimerkiksi isoissa liikerakennuskohteissa.
KNX on ohjelmoitava väyläpohjainen järjestelmä, jonka suunnitteluun ja asennukseen tarvitaan aina sähköalan ammattilainen. KNX-laitteet, jotka ohjaavat toimintoja kytketään parikaapeliväylään, joka on sähköistysvaiheessa rakennukseen kaapeloitu. Ohjelman toiminnot määritellään käyttöönottovaiheessa ohjelmoimalla. Kaapelointia ei tarvitse muutoksia varten muuttaa, vaan muutokset voidaan tehdä ohjelmoimalla.
KNX-taloautomaatiota käytetään automaattisiin ohjauksiin erilaisissa rakennuksissa kuten toimistoissa, liikekeskuksissa, uimahalleissa, kouluissa ja myös omakotitaloissa. KNX-taloautomaatio tuo rakennukseen muunneltavuutta, joustavuutta ja energiansäästöä.
